Best Buddies enables students to share the gift of friendship by pairing them with individuals who have intellectual disabilities. To elevate the profile of their cause, and celebrate the contribution of donors and volunteers, Best Buddies holds one of the most spectacular fundraisers in Canada after a movie premiere and reception at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The expectations for this gala are exceptionally high. Spark was tasked with transforming the concert venue Kool Haus into a hot house– pulling off a makeover that would turn the bare concrete warehouse (more appropriate for rock concerts than stylish soirées) into an intimate, formal venue for an elegant dinner.

Spark played up the existing features of Kool Haus– the ultra-hip bars, the unique seating areas– while creating ‘spaces’ within the space. As guests entered, they discovered a draped off, intimate cocktail lounge. Later, the curtains were opened, revealing the spectacular dining area. Every detail of the staging linked to the overall décor. As well, personal accents could be found everywhere– from the stunning chandelier at the cocktail area entrance, to the elegant table décor. Even the washrooms were re-imagined, with candles and flowers helping to create an ethereal experience. The result was a striking success for Best Buddies and the many celebrity guests in attendance.
